At the OAOP, we believe optometrists need to be operating independently, free of corporate control or interference, and governed by a medical board.  When those principles are challenged, we fight back, and we win.

In 2018 we helped run the successful campaign against State Question 793, which would have eliminated Oklahoma's "two-door" policy and given unprecedented corporate control over scope-of-practice issues. Our campaign beat some of the largest companies in the world by using a member-driven strategy to speak directly to patients and voters.

In 2019, we helped to permanently resolve questions about optometry and Big Retail by working to pass Senate Bill 100 (authored by optometrist and OAOP member Rep. Carl Newton). SB 100 protects the two-door policy and the independence of the optometrist on a permanent basis.

We are proud to be responsive to the needs of our members. Whatever the issue, we are unified, organized and results driven.
