OAOP Member Benefits

Protecting Scope of Practice:

Oklahoma has been the pioneer in the advanced scope of practice in the nation for optometric physicians. We use every tool at our disposal – grassroots advocacy, government relations, public relations, and political activism – to ensure we remain a world-class destination for vision health professionals.

Government Relations:

The OAOP is your eyes, your ears, and your voice at the State Capitol. We employ six full-time government relations professionals on issues that range from Medicaid reimbursement to negotiations with Vision Plans to representation on the Board of Examiners. At our yearly Capitol Day, our members meet with ranking state officials to advocate for vision health policy. Meanwhile, in Washington, DC, the American Optometry Association advocates for our interests with U.S. Senators, Representatives, and the White House.

Continuing Medical Education:

The OAOP is committed to providing the highest quality of continuing education with experts from around the nation at the Annual OAOP Vision Summit, the Converge Conference, and District Continuing Medical Education. We host regular CME classes in all areas of the state and help ODs compile and track their CME hours.

Billing and Coding Consulting:

Our Certified Professional Coder, Joyce Ardrey, provides members with the latest information on billing, coding, and other insurance system issues. Members and their staff may get individual advice from Joyce and attend monthly webinars regarding the latest developments in insurance and optometry.

Superior Professional Networking:

Meet your fellow optometric physicians and join the OAOP family. Our members learn business and medical best practices from each other, help one another advance their careers, and even cover each other’s practice needs in the case of medical emergencies. Our Leadership Optometry classes teach young ODs to engage in community, political, and media leadership and maximize their influence inside and outside their profession. You won’t find a more rewarding group to be a part of!

Bonus! When you join OAOP, you are also joining the American Optometric Association.
